Wayne and Becky in Scotland

Okay so I have to tell you about the time that Wayne and Becky came to Scotland because we kind of didn't know if they would. They had to apply for passports and get their step count up and mostly mentally prepare for a Jill Meek Itinerary-- and they did it and they made it here!

It was really really fun to show Craig's parents New College and St. Giles even under the cloud of jetleg. The next day we took a breather before embarking on our Highland adventure.

Leg one: Glasgow We got a quick peek at another Scottish city as we made our way west. We had intended to spend the day feerrying over to Dunoon where Craig's dad had been stationed in the Navy many moons ago, but this is as far as we made it and honestly I think it was for the best. pace-wise. Also this may have been everyone's favorite meal of the trip and it makes me so happy when people love things I choose!

Leg two: Oban This is one of Craig's favorite places in Scotland. It is small so there's not much to do, but all you want to do anyway is just stare out at the harbour, day or night. We also took the 'rents on their first whisky tour!

Leg three: Ft. William/Glencoe: If you didn't see a bit of the Highlands, did you even visit Scotland? This was a good landing place for us for two chill days of good views, good weather, and good food.

Leg four: one final glorious train ride home I stopped taking pictures eventually but these train rides were some of the best parts of the trip. The Highlands were the highlight for the Meek's for sure. Between train, bus, and car we had so many scenic journeys, and you really just can't beat theses views.

Back in Edinburgh it was time to squeeze in more fun. So back to the Botanic Gardens we went, and to Holyrood Park, and the National Museum of Scotland. The weather was on our side and we knocked it out of the park, food and hotel-wise, and generally had a really nice time.  I'm sure when we were done with them they want to sit down forever but the exhaustion was worth it, I'm sure ;)

(Christmas Market construction going up mid-October. **eyeroll** The gardens are still a mess.)

What was crazy about this trip was that we had been anticipating renting a car and driving, but our US licenses became invalid here as of a month before this trip happened.... we sort of knew this was true, but like, how would the rental car agency know how long we've lived here or that we live here at all an aren't just visiting from America? That's long story of how they/we figured that out, but yeah, we had to make some adjustments to the plan. In the end it all went swimmingly.

I'm so glad Craig's parents were able to make this trip. It was very fun to show them our little world and some out-this-world scenery.
